Galerie Provenance is proud to introduce fifteen original works by Masahiko Yamamoto specially commissioned for Galerie Provenance House in Bridgehampton. Masahiko Yamamoto is a contemporary ceramic artist based in the mountainous region of Soni Village, Nara. Working with locally sourced clays from Nara, Shiga, and Mie, he gathers ash, plants, minerals, and other natural materials from the surrounding landscape as part of his practice.
He employs several types of kilns, including an oil-fired kiln inherited from his grandfather, a kiln of his own construction, and electric and gas kilns. Through experimental firing methods that incorporate grass, charcoal, and wood, Yamamoto engages with the unpredictable nature of the process, allowing forms and surfaces to emerge beyond deliberate control. His work is extremely modern yet rooted in history and has an ethereal quality that is both contemporary, timeless and blends seamlessly with the Galerie Provenance core collection.
